When a scientific model consistently produces bad data, you don't patch it, you change the framework. For decades, traditional game reviews have tried to force a developer’s creative ambition and actual technical execution into a single, subjective score. The result is junk data. TGM forces a fundamental shift by completely decoupling intent from performance, giving the industry its first transparent, multidimensional benchmark.
1. The Degree of Difficulty (DD Score)
In Olympic diving, every maneuver is assigned a fixed Degree of Difficulty (DD) value before the diver even steps onto the board. A forward four-and-a-half somersaults has a higher baseline value than a simple swan dive.
The TGM Shift: We treat game development exactly the same way. Before analyzing bugs, performance, or mechanics, we measure the Ambition of the project. Did the developer attempt a massive, systemic open world, or a linear, handcrafted experience? The DD Score establishes the mechanical height of the platform, defining the absolute baseline of what the project is attempting to achieve.
2. The Scoring Panel (Synthesized Game Execution - sGE)
In an official diving event, a panel of judges scores the execution of the dive. To eliminate individual bias, the highest and lowest scores are discarded, leaving the middle scores to determine the actual performance value.
The TGM Shift: We apply this exact competitive filtering to user reviews to eliminate review-bombing and fanboy hype. Instead of a raw average, our Quantile Sampling engine acts as a 7-judge Virtual Panel. We sort user scores from lowest to highest, sample seven specific percentiles to represent the community voice, and cleanly drop the two highest and two lowest scores. Summing the remaining middle three judges filters out the noise to isolate the true execution signal: the Synthesized Game Execution (sGE) Score.
3. The Final Multiplier (TGM Foundation Score)
A diver's final score isn’t just their execution, and it isn’t just their difficulty. It is the product of both. A flawed but highly complex dive can rightfully score higher than a flawlessly executed basic dive.
The TGM Shift: The final TGM Foundation Score, like the diver's final score, isn't just based on the execution quality or just the design complexity. It is the mathematical product of both. By using the game's complexity score as a mathematical multiplier against its execution quality, we create a level playing field. This unified metric allows us to fairly benchmark a technically flawless, smaller indie title against a massive, deeply complex, but slightly unpolished masterpiece.
